As an ICCA Congress attendee, you are an important part of the team. Together, we are working toward building a legacy of lasting positive change that helps lift up the local community and extends beyond the walls of the conference hall.
Your actions as an active participant not only help contribute to the overall success of our objectives, but provide a strong foundation upon which to build the practices that lead to successful outcomes for everyone — in the meetings and events space, the community of Abu Dhabi, and the world as a whole.
Reducing food waste is an integral part of making the ICCA Congress 2024 more sustainable, aligning with our commitment to reduce the environmental impact of our event. As part of our sustainability strategy and the continuation of the Bangkok Protocol on Sustainable Gastronomy, we have partnered with ne’ma, the UAE’s National Food Loss and Waste Initiative to prioritise healthier, climate-friendly food choices with minimal food waste.
Food is an integral part of making the ICCA Congress 2024 more sustainable, aligning with our commitment to reduce the environmental impact of our event.
For the ICCA Congress 2024, we aim to serve food that is:
+50% vegetarian
50% locally sourced (less than 160 km distance)
Obtain the Zero Food Waste to Landfill Event certification, verified by The PLEDGE on Food Waste, in line with the UN SDGs 2, 12, 13 and 17 at ADNEC.
We encourage participants to continue embracing sustainable food practices during their time in Abu Dhabi and beyond. Join us in our mission to collectively reduce our environmental footprint.
Before the event, ICCA’s partner LightBlue, in collaboration with event organisers, hosts and chefs, will ensure the necessary steps are taken to minimize food waste. This includes:
Assessment of food distribution
Optimisation of waste flow
Training of kitchen, service, and stewarding staff on expected procedures
Identifying and vetting partner organisations to support the collection and redistribution of food surplus
Diversion of organic waste from the landfill
During the event, strict segregation of waste is reinforced. All safe-to-consume surplus food is carefully stored, and organic waste is collected, measured, and transformed into another resource.
Guests are also engaged to participate in achieving a no-waste objective by minimising their own personal plate waste.
At the ICCA Congress 2024, we are committed to promoting responsible water usage. You will find easily accessible water stations throughout ADNEC, and we encourage everyone to bring their own reusable bottles or obtain one onsite. Water bottles will be available to delegates to use and take home. With numerous refill stations available, this initiative aims to highlight the importance of water conservation and reducing use of in single-use plastic.
We are pleased to offer innovative air-to-water technology, capable of producing up to 5,000 litres of clean drinking water each day, with only a standard electricity supply needed. The system works by drawing in air and filtering out impurities before condensing water vapour through a heat-exchange process.
The water is then filtered again to ensure it meets potability standards and is stored fresh for use. This partnership reflects our ongoing efforts to implement practical solutions in our sustainability journey.
Join us in making mindful choices to conserve water and support our sustainability efforts at the event.
Sort your waste correctly to make a significant impact.
By carefully separating your waste into the designated bins, you play a vital role in helping us achieve our shared goal of reducing our environmental footprint. We have provided separate bins throughout venues for various types of waste.
Each bin is crucial for ensuring that recyclable and compostable materials are processed correctly, minimising the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.
